In an extraordinary display of talent and perception, 12-year-old Shivaraj Gowdru N from Davanagere has earned a place in the India Book of Records for reciting the highest number of 5-letter English words — blindfolded — in just 12 minutes and 23 seconds.
But what truly sets this young prodigy apart is his unique ability to identify objects, colors, and even read words without sight — relying solely on smell, sound, and touch.
A Rare Gift That Defies Logic
Shivaraj’s father, Niranjan Kumar, shared that his son can identify any object placed in his hand by merely sensing its smell or sound.
“He reads while blindfolded. He identifies the color of balls, reads what’s written on paper, and amazes everyone with his sense of perception. When he recited from the India Book of Records without opening the folded paper, the entire crowd was left stunned,” said an emotional Kumar.

Guided by the Power of the ‘Third Eye’
Shivaraj’s mother, Chandraprabha, revealed that her son is learning the ancient Gandhara Vidya (Third Eye Training) under Guru Manjunath Poojar at Vidyarambha Gurukul. This rare discipline aims to awaken the intuitive powers of the mind, enabling one to perceive beyond ordinary senses.
“He has also been selected for the Asia Book of Records, and we are eagerly waiting for the competition date. We are very proud and overjoyed by his achievements,” she said.
‘I Can Tell Colors Without Seeing’
When asked about his ability, the confident 12-year-old said,
“If you put a colored ball behind my head, I can tell you its color. If I am given an object, I can identify it just by sound, smell, or touch — even with my eyes closed.”
A Young Mind with Limitless Vision
Shivaraj’s incredible gift continues to amaze teachers, parents, and record officials alike. His story is not just about talent but also about the power of human potential when guided with focus and belief.
As Davanagere celebrates its young wonder, Shivaraj stands as an inspiration to millions — proving that sometimes, the eyes of the mind can see far beyond what the eyes can.
