In a remarkable story of grit and determination, Bidu Nayak, a 21-year-old tribal girl from Nuapada village in Kalahandi district, has cleared NEET, opening the door to her dream of becoming a doctor. Her achievement has ignited hope in her village and across the region.
From Fields to Classrooms
Born to daily wage labourers Narendra and Premsilla Nayak, Bidu grew up balancing studies with agricultural work to support her family. She completed primary and high school in her village and later topped Lanjigarh Block in +2 from ST/SC Higher Secondary School in 2024. Despite her brilliance, financial hurdles nearly stopped her higher education dreams.
A Brother’s Support and a City Move
Recognising her potential, a relative stepped in to help, enabling Bidu to shift to Bhubaneswar for NEET coaching. With her brother funding her hostel and tuition fees, she studied hard for a year and cracked the exam — a milestone few from her background have achieved.
Admission to Medical College
Bidu has now secured a seat at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Brahmapur, taking her first big step toward a career in medicine. “We saved every rupee from our farming work to pay for my education. My brother’s support made this possible,” Bidu told Times Now Digital.
A Role Model for Rural India
Bidu’s journey — from tending fields to wearing the white coat — is now inspiring dozens of children in her village. Local leaders are calling her a symbol of perseverance and hope for tribal youth, showing that education can break barriers of poverty and geography.
