A major safety concern has emerged on Bajghera Road in Gurugram, where streetlights installed over a year ago have never been operational. The poorly lit stretch has become a risk zone for daily commuters, especially after sunset.
Residents say that despite installation by the Public Works Department (PWD), the lights have remained non-functional since day one, raising serious questions about planning and execution.
Safety Risks Increase, Accidents Reported
The absence of streetlights has turned the road into a danger zone, particularly near an underpass where visibility drops sharply at night.
Commuters report:
●Frequent accidents due to poor visibility
●Difficulty navigating potholes and unmarked speed breakers
●High risk for two-wheeler riders
A resident highlighted that the moment vehicles exit the underpass, the stretch becomes completely dark, increasing the chances of mishaps.
Lack of Coordination Behind the Issue
The core problem appears to be bureaucratic confusion between multiple authorities.
The road falls under PWD jurisdiction
Electricity connection was initially requested from the municipal corporation, which refused
Later, PWD applied for a separate power connection, but no progress has been made
This lack of coordination has left the infrastructure incomplete, despite public funds being spent.
4-Km Stretch Remains Unsafe
Except for small patches near local markets where some light spills over, the entire 4-km stretch of Bajghera Road remains dark and unsafe.
Residents claim:
●Complaints have been raised multiple times
●No concrete action has been taken so far
●Some streetlight poles are already damaged
The prolonged delay has only worsened the condition of the road.

Authorities Pass Responsibility
Officials have added to the confusion by shifting responsibility:
●PWD claims the road has now been transferred to GMDA
●GMDA says it is currently focusing on sectors 58–80
●Responsibility may now lie with MCG or HSVP
This blame game has delayed resolution, leaving commuters to deal with unsafe conditions.
Urgent Need for Action
Residents are now demanding immediate intervention to:
●Activate streetlights
●Fix damaged poles
●Ensure proper coordination between departments
With accidents already being reported, locals warn that further delay could lead to serious incidents.
