In an effort to regulate roadside vending and reduce traffic congestion, authorities in Greater Noida have allotted designated platforms to 20 street vendors in newly developed vending zones across the city.
The initiative has been implemented by the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority as part of a broader plan to organise informal markets and provide vendors with stable business locations.
Part of Larger Plan for 769 Vending Platforms
Officials said the allotment is the first phase of a larger project under which 769 vending platforms have been constructed across 12 sectors in Greater Noida.
The vending platforms have been developed in sectors including:
Alpha II
Beta I and II
Sector 36
Omicron I-A and III
Zeta II and III
Gamma II
Delta I and III
Pi I and II
In the first phase, 20 vendors have been allotted spaces in Alpha II, Beta II and Sector 36.
Verification Process for Eligible Vendors
According to officials, the allotment was carried out after a detailed verification of applicants.
Mukesh Kumar Singh, Officer on Special Duty (Urban Services) at the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority, said 109 vendors were initially shortlisted, but objections were raised against some applicants.
“To maintain transparency, a committee of additional chief executive officers carried out fresh verification. After the review, 20 eligible vendors were finalised in the first phase,” he said.
Facilities Provided in Vending Zones
The newly constructed vending zones have been equipped with basic infrastructure to support vendors and customers. These facilities include:
●Covered sheds
●Electricity connections
●Water supply
●Toilet facilities
Officials say the project aims to provide vendors with secure and organised workspaces while reducing roadside encroachments that often cause traffic congestion.

No-Vending Zones Planned After Full Allotment
Prerna Singh said that once all vending platforms in a sector are allotted and operational, the area may be declared a no-vending zone to prevent vendors from operating along roadsides.
“This will help improve traffic management and ensure vending activities remain organised,” she said.
Allotment Letters Distributed
The allotment letters for the first batch of vendors were distributed by Tejpal Nagar in the presence of authority officials, including Additional CEO Shrilakshmi VS.
Officials said the initiative is expected to support street vendors’ livelihoods while improving urban traffic management and public space usage in Greater Noida.
