In the bustling coastal city of Mangaluru, Karnataka, one woman has become a lifeline for hundreds of forsaken animals. Rajani Shetty, a compassionate animal lover, has turned her small rented home into a haven for over 60 stray dogs—but her kindness doesn’t stop there. Every single day, she travels across the city to feed more than 700 street dogs, ensuring that no hungry soul is left behind.

Her day begins before sunrise as she cooks 60 kg of rice mixed with chicken trimmings, carefully adding turmeric and salt to make it both nutritious and safe. Then, she sets out on her journey, stopping at different locations to feed the starving and forgotten animals. This selfless mission costs her Rs5,000 daily, but she refuses to let financial strain deter her.

Rajani’s courage is just as remarkable as her compassion. Over the years, she has personally rescued hundreds of animals, often risking her own safety. She has climbed down wells 161 times to save dogs, cats, and even birds stuck in dangerous situations—sometimes with nothing but a rope.

Her family stands firmly by her side. Her husband, an auto-rickshaw driver, and her three children support her noble cause. While some kind-hearted locals and NGOs donate on special occasions, Rajani covers most of the expenses herself.

Before the COVID-19 lockdown, she fed 200 dogs daily, but as more animals were abandoned, that number skyrocketed to 700. “I will keep feeding them as long as I can,” she vows.
