Gopichand Hinduja, the powerful force behind the Hinduja Group, has once again claimed the top spot on The Sunday Times Rich List for the fourth consecutive year, cementing his place as the richest person in the United Kingdom. Despite a slight dip in his wealth—from £37.2 billion to £35.3 billion (approximately Rs 3.7 lakh crore)—Hinduja remains far ahead of the rest.

A Global Journey That Began in Mumbai
Gopichand, affectionately called “GP” by close associates, joined the family business in 1959 in Mumbai. What began as a modest trading firm under his father Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja in 1919 has now transformed into a global business empire, thanks to decades of strategic expansion.

The Hinduja family shifted base to London in 1979, and under GP’s leadership, the group has diversified into industries ranging from banking, finance, energy, and media to automotive manufacturing. Two of their most iconic acquisitions include Gulf Oil (1984) and Ashok Leyland (1987), turning the group into a global heavyweight with nearly 200,000 employees worldwide.

Luxury, Legacy, and London Real Estate
Beyond business, the Hindujas have made a mark on London’s real estate skyline. They own the historic Old War Office in Whitehall, which they recently transformed into the lavish Raffles London Hotel, redefining opulence in the British capital. The family also owns Carlton House Terrace, located just steps from Buckingham Palace.

A Family Spanning Continents

The Hinduja family maintains a unique multinational presence—Gopichand leads operations from London, Prakash resides in Monaco, and the youngest brother Ashok manages the group’s interests in India. Together, they keep the century-old legacy alive, weathering economic shifts while setting sights on the future.

Investing in Tomorrow
With a forward-looking mindset, the Hindujas are betting big on electric vehicles, sustainable energy, and green technologies. Through the Hinduja Foundation, the family also supports numerous philanthropic projects across healthcare, rural development, and education.

From humble beginnings in Sindh to dominating the UK’s elite rich list, Gopichand Hinduja’s journey is a masterclass in vision, resilience, and legacy-building.
