In an inspiring tale of grit and determination, Dimple Jyoti Rani from Bihar has proven that with willpower and perseverance, no dream is too big. The daughter of a pickup driver and Anganwadi worker, she cracked the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam without any coaching and became a Senior Deputy Collector (SDM).
Humble Roots, Big Dreams
Originally from Raxaul block of East Champaran district, Jyoti’s ancestral home lies in Chikani village of Jokiyari Panchayat, near the Bihar-Nepal border. Her father drives a pickup truck while her mother works at an Anganwadi center. Despite financial hardships, her parents never compromised on her education.
From Engineering to Administration
Jyoti studied up to Class 12 in Patna and initially aimed for IIT, even taking a drop year to prepare. Though IIT didn’t happen, she pursued B.Tech in Electronics and Communication from Jaipur and secured a private job with an annual package of ₹6 lakh. However, during the Covid-19 lockdown, she quit her job to chase a more meaningful goal — civil services.
YouTube Became Her Teacher
With no funds for coaching, Jyoti turned to YouTube for free study resources. She prepared for the BPSC exam entirely through online materials. Her discipline and commitment bore fruit when she secured AIR 256 in the 67th BPSC exam. She was first posted in West Champaran as an SDM.
Tears of Joy
Recalling the moment she saw her results, Jyoti said, “I and my father started crying together. It was a moment of pure joy and relief.”
Her story is now inspiring thousands of aspirants across the country — a testament that determination, not background, defines success.
