The results of the much-anticipated Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, India’s largest cleanliness survey, are in—and they reflect the growing success of the country’s movement toward a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future.

This year’s rankings, under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0, saw stiff competition among over 4,500 cities nationwide. The survey assessed cities on waste segregation, scientific waste processing, public feedback, and sanitation sustainability.

Top Cleanest Cities of 2025

Indore (Madhya Pradesh) once again retained its crown as India’s cleanest city for the eighth consecutive year, thanks to its robust waste management and community participation.

Surat (Gujarat) followed closely, praised for its tech-enabled garbage collection and smart urban planning.

Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra) ranked third, setting an example with its decentralized waste composting and plastic-free initiatives.

Among smaller cities, Sasvad (Maharashtra) and Patan (Gujarat) topped the charts, showcasing that size doesn’t limit cleanliness.

States Leading the Way

Madhya Pradesh was declared the Cleanest State (Urban) among large states.

Chhattisgarh won accolades for maintaining 100% door-to-door waste collection across urban bodies.

Tripura emerged as the best among smaller states for the second year.

Beyond Rankings: A Citizen-Driven Mission

Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 isn’t just a competition—it’s a citizen movement. With over 15 crore citizens giving feedback and participating in initiatives like zero waste campaigns, waste-to-art parks, and toilet rating drives, the survey emphasized community engagement.

The Road Ahead

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, emphasized that “Swachh Survekshan is not only about rankings—it is about instilling behavior change, building cleaner cities, and moving toward a garbage-free India by 2026.”

With innovations like AI-driven waste tracking, circular economy pilots, and urban composting, India is taking bold strides toward achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities).
