The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign for voter list verification has been completed across five विधानसभा constituencies in Ghaziabad district, revealing large-scale corrections in the electoral rolls. Out of 28,37,991 registered voters, verification identified 8,18,362 voters as absent, shifted, deceased, or duplicate, leading to their removal from the rolls.
According to the District Election Office, digitisation work has reached 71.17% completion as of December 27. The data shows a sharp variation among constituencies—Sahibabad recorded the highest number of deletions, while Modinagar saw the lowest.
Sahibabad Tops List of Deletions, Modinagar Least Affected
Sahibabad constituency witnessed the most significant impact of the SIR exercise. Of over 10 lakh registered voters, nearly 4 lakh names (38.32%) were removed after verification. In contrast, Modinagar recorded the lowest deletions, where 51,781 names were removed from a total of 3,34,765 voters.
Election officials clarified that the removed names largely fall under the ASD category—Absent, Shifted, Dead, or Duplicate voters.
1.6 Lakh Voters ‘Unmapped’ in Ghaziabad
District Election Officer Saurabh Bhatt said that around 1.6 lakh voters (5.6%) in Ghaziabad remain “unmapped”, meaning their physical presence was recorded during the survey but could not be linked with old records due to missing or mismatched details.
Unmapped voters are different from ASD voters. While ASD names are likely to be removed, unmapped voters can still be reinstated by submitting verification forms.
Concern Over Missing Forms in Gautam Buddh Nagar
In neighbouring Gautam Buddh Nagar, the SIR process covered 18.65 lakh voters across three constituencies. However, 4.48 lakh names are likely to be excluded, as they were marked absent, shifted, deceased, or duplicate during the survey.
Officials expressed concern after SIR data was locked at midnight on Friday. Notably, 1.84 lakh voter forms are still missing, prompting the administration to plan special verification camps from January 1 at identified locations to invite objections and claims.
