In a move aimed at improving safety and usability of public spaces, the Greater Noida Authority has launched a special drive to eliminate darkness from parks across city sectors by installing high-mast lights. The initiative comes after repeated complaints from residents about poorly lit parks that become unsafe after sunset.
Officials said that nearly 20 parks across different sectors have been identified where lighting infrastructure was either missing or inadequate. High-mast lights are being installed to ensure uniform illumination across the entire park area.
Residents Raised Safety Concerns
Many parks in Greater Noida turn dark in the evening due to lack of proper lighting, discouraging families, senior citizens, and walkers from using them after sunset. Residents had long been demanding better lighting, citing safety concerns, especially for women and children.
According to locals, the darkness also led to anti-social activities, with some miscreants using parks as hangout spots for substance abuse, causing discomfort to nearby residents.
Action Begins in Beta-1 Sector
As part of the drive, the authority installed high-mast lights in a park in Beta-1 sector on Saturday. The installation has already made a visible difference, with the park now remaining well-lit even after evening hours.
Beta-1 Sector RWA General Secretary Harendra Bhati welcomed the move, saying that the new lighting will make the park safer and more accessible for residents who come for evening walks, exercise, or relaxation.

Improved Safety and Community Use Expected
Officials believe that improved lighting will discourage illegal activities, enhance public safety, and encourage greater community participation in park usage. Well-lit parks are expected to see increased footfall from families, elderly residents, and fitness enthusiasts.
The authority has assured residents that similar lighting upgrades will soon be completed in other sector parks as well, ensuring that no public green space remains dark.
Authority Assures Expansion of the Drive
Greater Noida Authority officials stated that the campaign will be expanded further based on feedback from residents. The aim is to ensure that all sector parks remain well-lit, safe, and welcoming, especially during evening hours.
The move is being seen as a step toward improving urban safety and enhancing the quality of life in Greater Noida.
