The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is set to introduce a cutting-edge AI-driven project monitoring system that will use drone cameras and advanced artificial intelligence to oversee metro infrastructure projects in real time. The initiative aims to significantly improve efficiency, reduce delays, and enhance transparency in one of India’s largest urban transport networks.
According to officials, DMRC plans to develop an AI-based Project Management System (AI-PMS) that will continuously monitor construction progress, identify potential risks, and automatically adjust project timelines wherever required. Unlike traditional monitoring tools, the proposed system will be capable of independent decision-making, enabling faster corrective action.
AI to Track Progress and Generate Daily Reports
Under the proposed system, AI-enabled drones and smart cameras will capture real-time visuals from construction sites. These inputs will be analysed to compare actual on-ground progress with planned timelines. The system will then generate daily progress reports, highlight bottlenecks, and suggest solutions to prevent delays.
Metro officials said the AI platform will also provide real-time visibility to project managers and senior officials, allowing them to make informed decisions without waiting for manual inspections or delayed reports.
Smart Rescheduling and Risk Prediction
One of the key strengths of the AI-PMS will be its ability to predict delays before they occur. By analysing data related to manpower availability, equipment performance, weather conditions, and material supply, the system will be able to foresee disruptions and reschedule work in real time.
For instance, in cases of labour shortages, machinery breakdowns, or adverse weather, the AI system will automatically recommend revised schedules to minimise project impact.

Integrated with BIM and Compliance Monitoring
The AI platform will be integrated with Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools, enabling a more detailed and structured view of project execution. It will also continuously track the utilisation of labour, equipment, and materials, ensuring optimal resource management.
In addition, the system will automatically review project documents and site data to check regulatory and safety compliance, reducing the risk of violations and costly rework.
A Game Changer for Infrastructure Projects
DMRC has invited IT companies to submit proposals for the AI-PMS by March 2, signalling the seriousness of the initiative. Officials believe the project could redefine how large infrastructure works are monitored—not only for Delhi Metro, but for public projects across India.
By combining AI, drones, and real-time analytics, DMRC aims to complete projects faster, reduce operational risks, and set new benchmarks in smart infrastructure management.
