In a major pre-Holi crackdown, food safety authorities in Gautam Buddh Nagar uncovered shocking violations at sweet shops and edible oil units, destroying contaminated food items and seizing thousands of oil packs suspected of breaching safety norms.
Contaminated Sweets Found in Shop
Officials destroyed nearly 100 kilograms of rasgullas at a sweet shop in Sector 62 after inspectors found them stored in filthy conditions and allegedly infested with mosquitoes. The sweets were deemed unsafe for consumption, and samples have been sent for laboratory testing to determine contamination levels.
Authorities warned that strict action would follow if the samples fail safety standards.
Massive Seizure of Edible Oil Products
On the same day, inspections at industrial units in Greater Noida revealed serious irregularities in edible oil manufacturing and packaging:
Thousands of pouches and tins of refined oil seized
Products falsely displaying mandatory fortification labels
Expired stock allegedly meant for distribution confiscated
Containers with missing or unclear batch details flagged
Officials said that oils claiming vitamin fortification were found without actual enrichment — a violation of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations.
Multiple Traders Under Scanner
Additional raids at local markets uncovered reused containers, improperly stored oil, and products lacking traceable manufacturing information. Samples from several locations have been sent for testing.

Festival Season Vigil Intensified
Authorities stated that inspections will continue across the district in the run-up to Holi to prevent the sale of unsafe food products.
“Strict action will be taken against anyone compromising public health,” officials said.
With festive demand surging, consumers have been urged to purchase sweets and edible items only from trusted vendors and to check packaging details carefully.
