In a major step toward improving child healthcare services, authorities in Uttar Pradesh are planning to launch a statewide ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) network to enhance access to specialised paediatric medical care.
The initiative will be led by Child PGI Noida, which will act as the central hub for training and collaboration among doctors across the state.
According to Dr Arun Kumar Singh, the programme will focus on strengthening expertise in critical medical fields including paediatric oncology, neonatal care, infectious diseases, paediatric surgery, and intensive care.
Addressing Gaps in Advanced Paediatric Care
Health officials said the initiative comes amid growing concerns over disparities in access to specialised child healthcare across several districts of Uttar Pradesh.
In many regions, advanced services such as paediatric oncology, neonatology, and paediatric intensive care remain limited, forcing families to travel long distances for treatment.
The ECHO model aims to bridge this gap by connecting specialists at Child PGI Noida with doctors working in district hospitals and medical colleges through virtual sessions and case discussions.
Expert-Led Discussions to Improve Treatment
Under the programme, doctors across the state will be able to participate in regular expert-led discussions, where complex cases involving critically ill children can be reviewed and analysed.
Officials said this collaborative approach will help doctors improve their clinical skills while ensuring that children receive better and more timely treatment.
The model is also expected to help create uniform and evidence-based treatment protocols across hospitals.
Faster Referrals for Critical Cases
Authorities said the network will also streamline referral pathways so that critically ill children can be transferred quickly to appropriate healthcare facilities when specialised care is required.
This coordinated system will ensure that patients reach the right hospitals without unnecessary delays, which is often critical in emergency situations.

Capacity Building for Doctors Across the State
Apart from improving treatment access, the initiative will focus on capacity building for medical professionals across Uttar Pradesh.
Officials believe the programme will strengthen the skills of doctors working in district hospitals and medical colleges, ultimately improving the overall quality of paediatric healthcare services in the state.
Implementation planning for the ECHO network is currently underway, and authorities expect the programme to be launched in the near future.
