Noida Authority Announces Health Insurance for 4,800 Sanitation Workers

Sanitation workers employed by the Noida Authority have raised concerns over increased workload and lack of salary hikes, even as officials announced a new health insurance initiative for thousands of workers in Noida.
Many sanitation workers say their responsibilities have expanded significantly in recent weeks, while their wages have remained unchanged.

Workers Claim Additional Civil Work Assigned
One sanitation worker living in Sector 101 said he has been working with the authority for nearly 10 years, covering areas including Sector 128 and Asgharpur from 7 am to 3 pm daily.
He explained that earlier their duties mainly involved cleaning roads and clearing blocked drains in their designated sectors.
However, workers claim that last month the authority shifted some responsibilities from the health department to the civil department, adding new tasks to their routine work.
According to workers, they are now also asked to handle:
●Removal of construction and demolition waste
●Development of central verges
●Maintenance of pathways and other civil tasks
Workers say these duties were previously handled by civil department teams.

Workers Demand Salary Increase and Benefits
Sanitation workers say they currently receive a salary of Rs 18,400 per month, which they believe does not reflect the additional responsibilities assigned to them.
One worker said, “We have been working with the authority for many years but have not received any salary hike. Now additional work is being given to us without any increase in wages.”
They also raised concerns about the lack of medical coverage for themselves and their families.

Authority Announces Health Insurance for Workers
Responding to the concerns, the Noida Authority said steps are being taken to address workers’ grievances.
According to an official statement, the authority has approved medical insurance coverage for 4,800 sanitation workers.
Officials said the authority has completed the necessary formalities with State Bank of India to implement the insurance scheme.
The initiative aims to provide healthcare support to sanitation workers and their families.

Efforts to Improve Healthcare Access
In addition to the insurance plan, officials said the authority is working to ensure that sanitation workers receive better medical treatment at government-run hospitals.
Authorities added that worker demands are being reviewed and addressed according to existing rules and regulations.
The development comes amid growing discussions about working conditions and welfare measures for sanitation workers who play a key role in maintaining civic cleanliness across the rapidly expanding city.
