A controversy has surfaced in Alpha-1 sector of Greater Noida after a section of residents alleged that Resident Welfare Association (RWA) office bearers were appointed without following the legally mandated election process, raising concerns about transparency and democratic functioning within the sector.
The issue has led to growing fear and mistrust among residents regarding the conduct of RWA elections, with many questioning whether lawful procedures are being deliberately bypassed.
Deputy Registrar’s order allegedly violated
According to residents, the Deputy Registrar, acting on repeated complaints, had recently directed that fresh RWA elections be conducted in a constitutional manner. To ensure fairness, the District Youth Welfare Officer was appointed as the Election Officer for the process.
However, before the official election procedure could begin, a group of residents allegedly convened a private meeting and declared new RWA office bearers by garlanding them, without any formal voting or verification.
Residents raise strong objections
Several residents, including Rajkumar, Umesh Chaudhary, Gajendra Sharma and Jitendra Chauhan, strongly opposed the move and submitted a formal complaint to the Deputy Registrar. They alleged that the act not only undermined democratic norms but also violated official instructions issued by the authorities.
Residents claimed that such practices have continued in the sector for years, creating an atmosphere where transparent elections are replaced by informal consensus or pressure-based appointments.
Election was scheduled for January 14
Locals pointed out that Alpha-1 sector last held a constitutionally valid RWA election in 2009. Since then, office bearers have reportedly been selected without proper elections.
As per the Deputy Registrar’s directive, the Election Officer was scheduled to visit the sector on January 14, after reviewing records and ground realities, to officially announce the election process. The premature declaration of office bearers before this visit has now sparked unrest.

Sector divided into two groups
Following the incident, the sector has reportedly split into two opposing groups — one supporting the newly declared office bearers and the other demanding fresh,
lawful elections under official supervision.
The protesting group has reiterated its demand that only a transparent and constitutional election process can restore trust among residents and ensure accountable local governance.
The matter is now pending before the Deputy Registrar, whose decision is expected to determine the future course of the RWA elections in Alpha-1 sector.
