In a significant step toward deepening its presence in India’s growing healthcare sector, Amazon has rolled out a new at-home diagnostics service across six major cities. The service, Amazon Diagnostics, will offer users access to more than 800 laboratory tests from the comfort of their homes, with sample pickup in as little as 60 minutes and results delivered digitally within hours.
The launch marks the e-commerce giant’s latest move in building a comprehensive health platform in India, already anchored by its online pharmacy and telehealth services.
From Online Shopping to Blood Tests
Available in Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Gurugram, and Noida, the service is being offered in collaboration with Orange Health Labs, a diagnostics company known for rapid sample collection and digital integration. Covering more than 450 PIN codes, the service allows users to schedule tests directly through the Amazon app.
Once booked, phlebotomists arrive within an hour for sample collection. For standard tests, users can expect their reports in six hours or less, a turnaround time that could disrupt the diagnostic services landscape, particularly in urban centers where convenience is a priority.
A Strategic Entry Into Preventive Health
Amazon’s entry into diagnostics is not a standalone play—it is part of a broader strategy to weave pharmacy, diagnostics, and virtual consultation into a unified ecosystem. The new diagnostics service has been introduced under the Amazon Medical umbrella, which the company has been gradually expanding over the last two years.
With this integration, Amazon is betting on a growing middle-class demand for preventive healthcare, faster diagnostics, and seamless digital access. Users will be able to view test results, consult with doctors, and order medicines all from the same app.
Market Reaction and Competitive Ripples
The news has already sent ripples through the diagnostics industry. Stocks of listed players such as Dr. Lal PathLabs and Metropolis Healthcare fell by up to 3% on the day of Amazon’s announcement, reflecting investor anxiety over the tech giant’s disruptive potential.
India’s diagnostics market, estimated at ₹15,000 crore, remains largely fragmented, with a significant portion still unorganized. Experts believe Amazon’s brand trust, logistical muscle, and tech infrastructure could give it an edge in capturing urban and aspirational health-conscious consumers.
The Future of Healthcare at Home
Amazon’s expansion into diagnostics comes amid a post-pandemic recalibration of consumer behavior. Demand for home-based health services has surged, and the company appears well-positioned to respond with its hybrid model of speed, digital access, and clinical reliability.
While it remains to be seen how aggressively Amazon will scale this offering across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, its entry signals a shift in how diagnostics are delivered—and who delivers them. What was once the domain of clinics and pathology labs is now being redefined by tech-enabled convenience.
As one Amazon executive put it, this is “just the beginning of a healthier, more connected India.”
