Indian-origin executive Kruti Patel Goyal has made global headlines after being appointed as the new CEO of Etsy Inc, the world-renowned online marketplace known for its creative and handcrafted products. With this appointment, Goyal joins the exclusive league of Indian-origin global tech leaders — including Sundar Pichai of Google and Satya Nadella of Microsoft — who have reshaped Silicon Valley’s leadership landscape.
The 49-year-old replaces Josh Silverman, who has served as Etsy’s CEO for eight years. Goyal will officially take over the top post on January 1, 2026, and will also join the company’s board of directors.
A 14-Year Journey from Product Teams to the Corner Office
Kruti Patel Goyal’s rise within Etsy is a story of long-term commitment and visionary leadership. Having joined the company in 2011, she began her journey on the seller and product teams before moving into executive roles. Over the years, she has held key positions overseeing Product, Engineering, Marketing, Trust and Safety, and Strategy and Operations.
In 2019, she became Chief Product Officer, and by 2022, she was appointed CEO of Depop, a secondhand fashion marketplace acquired by Etsy for $1.6 billion. Her successful leadership at Depop helped revive growth and strengthen Etsy’s youth-focused segment. In April 2025, she returned to lead Etsy’s main business — marking her steady climb to the top.
Global Growth Vision Amid Market Challenges
Etsy, currently valued at USD 6.46 billion (around ₹57,300 crore), has faced slowing growth in recent years. Goyal’s appointment comes as part of Etsy’s renewed focus on innovation and expansion in emerging markets. Known for her sharp strategic thinking, she aims to reinvent the brand’s global marketplace model and enhance opportunities for small business creators worldwide.
Before Etsy, Goyal worked in Mergers & Acquisitions at Morgan Stanley and growth equity at General Atlantic Partners, followed by stints in strategy and business development at Viacom and (RED) — the social enterprise co-founded by Bono.
