Big Action in Noida: Rs 73.40 Lakh Environmental Fine on Amrapali Sapphire-II Society

In a major enforcement action, the Noida Authority has imposed an environmental compensation of ₹73.40 lakh on Amrapali Sapphire-II housing society located in Sector-45, Noida. The penalty follows a detailed site inspection that revealed serious violations of environmental laws and non-compliance with directions issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
Officials said the action reflects the authority’s zero-tolerance approach toward housing societies that fail to manage sewage and waste responsibly, causing long-term damage to the environment.

STP Found Non-Compliant During Inspection
During the inspection, officials found that the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) installed within the society premises was not operating as per prescribed standards. Untreated or inadequately treated sewage was being discharged, posing a threat to groundwater and nearby drainage systems.
Despite repeated warnings and earlier notices, the society allegedly continued to violate environmental norms, prompting the authority to initiate strict penal action.

Penalty Under Multiple Environmental Laws
The Rs 73.40 lakh penalty has been imposed under provisions of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, and Solid Waste Management Rules, 2000 and 2016.
Officials clarified that persistent violations, especially after prior warnings, amount to a direct breach of NGT orders, leaving the authority with no option but to take punitive measures.

FIR to Be Registered Against the Society
In an escalation of action, senior officials from the Water Department (Zone-III) have directed that a First Information Report (FIR) be registered against Amrapali Sapphire-II. The details of the action have also been shared with the regional pollution control authorities so that parallel proceedings can be initiated at their level.

Authority Signals Tough Stand on Environmental Compliance
The Noida Authority has reiterated that it will continue to act firmly against residential societies discharging untreated sewage into drains or failing to operate pollution-control infrastructure properly.
Officials warned that similar inspections are being carried out across Noida and any society found violating environmental norms will face heavy penalties, legal action, and possible criminal proceedings.
The action against Amrapali Sapphire-II sends a clear message that environmental compliance is no longer optional and negligence will invite serious consequences.
