Big Administrative Exercise Ahead: Census 2027 House Survey Dates Announced for NCR

After more than a decade and a half, the nationwide population count is set to resume, with preparations for Census 2027 officially underway in Noida and Ghaziabad. Authorities have announced that the first phase — house listing and housing enumeration — will take place from May 22 to June 20, marking the start of one of India’s largest administrative exercises.

First Fully Digital Census
For the first time in history, the census will be conducted entirely in digital mode. Officials confirmed that residents will also have the option of self-enumeration, allowing households to submit details online instead of relying solely on door-to-door visits by enumerators.
This technology-driven approach aims to improve accuracy, speed, and transparency while reducing paperwork and logistical challenges.

Massive Ground Deployment Planned
In Ghaziabad alone, authorities have divided the district into 7,914 enumerator blocks, with plans to deploy approximately 8,593 enumerators and 1,432 supervisors. Training programmes for master trainers and field staff are already underway to ensure smooth execution.
In Noida, mapping of enumeration blocks is still in progress, with officials appointing charge officers across tehsils, municipal bodies, and development authorities to oversee the operation.

Population Count Phase Next Year
The second phase — covering detailed population data and caste enumeration — is scheduled for February 9 to 28 next year, followed by a short revision round in early March.
Officials say the exercise comes after a 16-year gap, as the last census was conducted in 2011. Since then, both districts have witnessed explosive growth due to rapid urbanisation, migration, and infrastructure expansion.

Electoral Roll Revision Also Underway
The census preparations coincide with a special revision of voter lists. Draft electoral rolls have shown a sharp decline in registered voters, with lakhs of names removed pending verification. Authorities are currently processing corrections and new registrations, with final rolls expected in April.

Why This Census Matters
Beyond counting people, the census shapes policy decisions, resource allocation, urban planning, welfare schemes, and political representation for the next decade. With Noida and Ghaziabad emerging as major urban hubs, the upcoming enumeration will provide crucial insights into population trends, housing patterns, and infrastructure needs.
For residents, the message is clear: be prepared to participate — either through a visit from census officials or via the new self-enumeration system — in an exercise that will influence governance for years to come.
