In a major boost to India’s aviation sector, Noida International Airport has announced a strategic partnership with Akasa Air to establish the airline’s first Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the upcoming airport in Jewar.
The agreement marks an important step toward developing the airport as a major aviation hub while strengthening India’s aircraft maintenance ecosystem. The facility is expected to play a key role in supporting the country’s rapidly expanding aviation industry.

State-of-the-Art Aircraft Maintenance Facility
Under the partnership, Akasa Air will operate a modern MRO facility within the airport premises, providing advanced aircraft maintenance services. The facility will support a wide range of maintenance activities while ensuring high standards of safety, efficiency and operational reliability for airline operations.
Officials said the project will help reduce the aviation sector’s dependence on foreign maintenance facilities and improve operational efficiency for airlines operating in India.

Boost for Jobs and Skill Development
The upcoming MRO facility is also expected to generate significant employment opportunities and promote skill development in the aviation sector across the region.
Industry experts believe the project will contribute to building a strong aviation ecosystem around the airport, benefiting airlines, aviation professionals, engineers and other allied industries.

Commenting on the development, Triveni Singh said the initiative will have a major positive impact on the region.
“The establishment of an MRO facility at Noida International Airport is a major opportunity for the region. It will generate employment, strengthen the aviation ecosystem and is truly a matter of pride for Gautam Buddh Nagar. Such initiatives place the region firmly on India’s aviation and economic growth map,” he said.

Step Toward Making India an Aviation Maintenance Hub
The initiative aligns with the vision of the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh to develop Noida International Airport as a key MRO hub for the aviation industry.
Christoph Schnellmann said Akasa Air’s decision to set up its first MRO facility at the airport reflects strong confidence in the vision of building a world-class aviation hub in the region.
Meanwhile, Vinay Dube said that strengthening domestic MRO capabilities will be critical as India’s aviation market continues to grow rapidly.

Akasa Air’s Rapid Growth
Since its launch in August 2022, Akasa Air has served over 25 million passengers and currently connects 26 domestic and six international destinations, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
The airline has also placed an order for 226 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, highlighting its long-term expansion strategy in India’s rapidly growing aviation market.

Noida International Airport Project
Noida International Airport is being developed as a major international gateway for the Delhi-NCR region.
The greenfield airport project is being implemented by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, under a 40-year concession agreement with the government.
In its initial phase, the airport will feature one runway and one terminal capable of handling around 12 million passengers annually, with expansion planned in later phases.
