Delhi residents may soon get relief from daily traffic congestion as a traffic study has begun to make Pankha Road completely signal-free. The stretch from Uttam Nagar Bus Terminal to Delhi Cantonment (Kirby Place) will be redesigned to improve smooth traffic movement.
Two Flyovers Planned Over 6-Km Stretch
The Public Works Department (PWD) is planning to construct two new flyovers across a 6-kilometre stretch of Pankha Road. These flyovers aim to eliminate traffic signals and reduce bottlenecks on one of West Delhi’s busiest corridors.
Encroachment Identified Near Sagarpur Red Light
During the ground survey, PWD officials found heavy encroachment on both sides of the road near the Sagarpur red light, covering nearly 200 metres. PWD has written to concerned departments to remove the encroachments, which are essential for flyover construction.
Uneven Road Width Causing Traffic Issues
Although Pankha Road is officially over 60 metres wide, the survey revealed that the usable width varies between 33 and 41 metres due to encroachments. In several locations, the road width has been reduced by almost half, worsening congestion.
Seven Major T-Junctions on the Route
The 6-km stretch includes seven key T-junctions, including:
Lal Sai Marg
Major P. Shrikumar Marg
Mall Road
Dada Satram Mamtani Marg
Seva Marg
Pandit Vishnu Dutt Marg
Arya Samaj Road
Some junctions like Dabri flyover to Mall Road are already signal-free, but three junctions remain problematic.

1.3-Km Flyover to Remove Remaining Signals
To address the remaining congestion points, PWD plans to build a 1.3-km-long flyover covering:
Kali Mata Temple junction
Sagarpur Road crossing
Seva Marg T-junction
The new flyover is proposed to connect directly with the existing Dabri flyover.
Officials said encroachment removal is the biggest challenge. Once cleared, the project will move to the execution phase, bringing faster, signal-free travel for thousands of daily commuters heading toward Delhi Cantt, Noida, and central Delhi.
