In a proud moment for Tamil Nadu’s education sector, Revathy Parameswaran, Principal of P.S. Senior Secondary School, Mylapore, has been selected for the prestigious National Teacher Award 2025. Known for her innovative methods in teaching mathematics, she has inspired generations of students to shed their fear of numbers and embrace the subject with confidence.
For Ms. Revathy, mathematics is not just about solving equations. Her teaching philosophy rests on a simple but powerful belief – learning must be joyful and connected to real life.
“Maths is a lot more than formulae. When concepts are made clearer through activities and real-life situations, students realise it is not disconnected from life,” she said after the announcement.
Her approach has transformed the way students perceive mathematics. Instead of memorising formulae, her students explore math through puzzles, activities, and relatable examples from everyday life. This method not only makes the subject easier but also helps in developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Honoured Among India’s Best
Along with V. Vijayalakshmi of Bharathiyar Centenary School, Tiruppur, Ms. Revathy is one of two teachers selected from Tamil Nadu this year. Nationwide, 45 outstanding teachers will be honoured at a grand ceremony in New Delhi on September 5, marking Teachers’ Day.
Each awardee will receive:
A certificate of merit
A cash prize of ₹50,000
A silver medal
The award, conferred by the Ministry of Education, recognises exceptional teachers who inspire creativity, innovation, and excellence in classrooms across India.
