In a move aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and improving civic services, the municipal corporation has announced the formation of ward-level committees that will play a key role in sanitation, development planning and emergency response.
Officials said these committees will support the administration during epidemics, natural disasters and other crisis situations, ensuring quicker coordination and local-level monitoring. However, details regarding eligibility criteria, selection process, tenure and remuneration of committee members are yet to be clarified.
Focus on Cleanliness & Waste Management
A major responsibility of the newly formed committees will be overseeing solid waste management and sanitation arrangements in their respective wards. They will monitor cleanliness drives, supervise implementation of sanitation initiatives and flag lapses to authorities.
The panels will also help identify genuine beneficiaries for welfare and development schemes to ensure that government benefits reach the intended residents transparently.
Ward-Level Planning & Accountability
Mayor Rajrani Malhotra said the committees will prepare ward-wise development plans and budgets, track infrastructure indices and ensure timely completion of civic works.
Periodic reports will be submitted to the corporation, and the committees will also monitor the implementation of relevant municipal laws and assigned responsibilities.

Strengthening Citizen Participation
Issuing the order, Dahiya said the initiative is designed to enhance good governance, transparency and citizen participation. Officials believe the step will help bridge the gap between residents and the civic body, making governance more responsive, accountable and locally driven.
The move is expected to decentralise decision-making and create a stronger feedback mechanism between citizens and municipal authorities.
