Covid-19 Cases Rising Again in India: What You Must Know to Stay Safe

India is witnessing a fresh surge in Covid-19 infections, with 564 new cases and 7 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. The active caseload stands at 4,866, with Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Delhi among the worst-affected states, according to the Union Health Ministry.

What’s Causing the Spike?
New Omicron sub-variants — LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1 — are behind the latest rise. The good news? Experts say these variants are not severe, but they spread rapidly, increasing the risk of outbreaks.

ICMR Chief Dr. Rajiv Behl has reassured the public that the infections remain mild in most cases, with no immediate cause for panic. Still, precautions are critical to limit transmission and avoid a healthcare burden.

Do’s to Stay Safe:

Wash hands frequently with soap or a sanitizer with 60% alcohol.

Always wear a mask in public and crowded places.

Cover your nose and mouth while sneezing or coughing.

Dispose of tissues properly in closed bins.

Visit a doctor if you have fever, cough, or breathing trouble.

Don’ts You Must Avoid:

Avoid touching contaminated surfaces unnecessarily.

Don’t ignore early symptoms or delay testing.

Say no to handshakes; prefer contactless greetings.

Avoid house visits or inviting guests during this period.

WHO Status:
As of May 2025, the variants LF.7 and NB.1.8 are under global monitoring, though not classified as serious threats. However, countries like China have already reported increased hospitalizations, urging others to remain cautious.

Stay safe. Stay aware. And don’t let your guard down.
Follow health guidelines to protect yourself and your community.
