Delhi’s Yamuna River is set to gain a new identity beyond pollution debates and religious significance, as the Delhi government prepares to launch a cruise service aimed at boosting river-based tourism. The initiative is in its final stages, and operations are expected to begin as early as next month.

Cruise Built in Mumbai, Ready to Sail to Delhi
The modern cruise vessel has been constructed in Mumbai, where most of the work has already been completed. According to officials, the cruise will be transported to Delhi next week to complete technical formalities before it becomes operational.

Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra visited Mumbai to inspect the cruise, reviewing its facilities and readiness. He stated that the government is targeting a February launch, offering residents and tourists a unique leisure experience on the Yamuna.

Dining, Entertainment, and a Premium Experience
The cruise will be equipped with food, beverages, and onboard entertainment, ensuring a comfortable and memorable journey for passengers. The government believes the service will add a fresh dimension to Delhi’s tourism offerings.

80% Ready, Expected in Delhi by January 20
Officials confirmed that the cruise is around 80% complete and is scheduled to reach Delhi by January 20. Once it arrives, the engine installation and safety trials will be carried out to ensure compliance with operational and passenger safety standards.

Cruise to Start From Wazirabad, One-Hour River Ride
The cruise service will begin from the Wazirabad area near Sonia Vihar, offering a one-hour ride along the Yamuna. Passengers will have the option of individual tickets, family outings, or party bookings. The surrounding area will also be developed with tourist-friendly infrastructure to enhance the overall experience.

Tourism Linked With River Cleanliness
Government officials believe that integrating tourism with the Yamuna will also help increase public awareness about river cleanliness. Increased footfall along the riverbanks is expected to strengthen efforts to keep the river clean and well-maintained.
