The national capital’s aviation hub is set to enter a new era of passenger experience as the upgraded Terminal 2 (T2) at Indira Gandhi International Airport gears up to welcome travellers from October 26, 2025. Operated by GMR AERO-led Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the modernized T2 promises cutting-edge technology, faster processes, and a bright, welcoming ambience.
Game-Changing Passenger Experience
Self Baggage Drop (SBD): Passengers can now tag and drop their luggage themselves in minutes, cutting queues and saving time.
Autonomous Docking Bridges: Six state-of-the-art passenger boarding bridges from South Korea with autonomous docking — a first in India — for faster, safer boarding and smoother wheelchair access.
Modern Skylights and Ceilings: Innovative architecture allows natural light, creating a spacious, vibrant environment.
Operational Shift
From the intervening night of October 25–26, about 120 daily domestic flights by Air India and Indigo will move operations to the revamped T2, easing congestion at other terminals and enhancing efficiency.
Behind the Transformation
Built 40 years ago, T2 underwent a full-scale upgrade to prepare for Delhi Airport’s next phase of growth. The new terminal includes:
●Enhanced road connectivity and advanced flooring for comfort.
●Renovated HVAC systems for better air quality.
●Advanced fire safety and electrical systems for reliable operations.
●Real-time flight information displays and accessibility-focused signage.
DIAL’s Vision
“Terminal 2 is not just a facility upgrade—it’s a complete reimagination of the passenger journey,” said Mr. Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO-DIAL. “With innovative technologies, we are empowering travelers, optimizing efficiency, and preparing IGI Airport for the future of aviation.”
Why It Matters
As India’s busiest aviation hub, Delhi Airport’s T2 upgrade represents a leap towards smarter, sustainable, and globally benchmarked airport experiences — directly supporting the country’s growing air travel aspirations.
