Residents across multiple parts of Delhi are likely to face temporary water supply disruption as the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has announced planned pipeline interconnection work. According to officials, water supply will remain intermittent from Friday evening till Saturday morning in over 17 localities, potentially affecting daily household routines.

The announcement has prompted residents to store water in advance and adjust usage for essential needs.

Pipeline interconnection work behind disruption
The disruption is part of scheduled maintenance and pipeline interconnection work being carried out to improve the city’s water distribution network. DJB officials said the work is necessary to strengthen supply lines and reduce future leakages and pressure-related issues.
However, during the repair and interconnection process, water flow needs to be regulated or temporarily stopped in connected zones.

Areas expected to be affected
According to the advisory, several residential and mixed-use areas will experience low pressure or no water supply during the scheduled period. While the complete list includes more than 17 localities, officials said the impact may vary depending on storage capacity and local pipeline connectivity.

Residents have been advised to check updates through official DJB communication channels and local authorities.

Residents urged to plan water usage
The Delhi Jal Board has urged residents to store sufficient water for drinking, cooking, and essential household needs. Citizens have also been advised to avoid excessive water usage during the disruption window to ensure equitable availability across affected areas.
Apartment associations and housing societies have been asked to manage internal storage tanks carefully.

Household routines likely to be affected
The disruption is expected to affect morning routines, especially in households dependent on direct municipal supply. Residents expressed concern about cooking, sanitation, and daily chores, particularly in areas with limited water storage infrastructure.

Working professionals and families with children said even short disruptions create inconvenience during busy weekdays.

DJB assures restoration after completion

Officials from the Delhi Jal Board assured that water supply will be restored immediately after the completion of work. They added that all teams are working to ensure the process is completed on time to minimise inconvenience.

Emergency water tankers may be arranged in critical areas if required, officials said.

Part of larger infrastructure upgrade
Experts say such disruptions are often unavoidable during infrastructure upgrades but are essential for long-term benefits. Improved pipelines can help reduce water loss, improve pressure balance, and ensure more reliable supply in the future.

Advisory to stay updated

Residents have been advised to stay alert for further updates and contact DJB helplines in case of prolonged disruption. Authorities have reiterated that the work is temporary and aimed at improving service quality.
As Delhi continues to upgrade its aging water
infrastructure, short-term inconvenience is being seen as a necessary step toward more stable and efficient water supply systems.
