Delhi University (DU) is set to witness a major transformation in 2026, with multiple new academic buildings, hostels, and campuses becoming operational, Vice-Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh announced on the first working day of the New Year.

Addressing a dialogue programme at the university, Prof. Singh said DU has had a strong 2025 and is heading into an even more promising 2026, backed by infrastructure projects worth over Rs 2,000 crore, most of which are expected to be completed this year.

New Colleges, Hostels and Campuses Coming Up
The Vice-Chancellor confirmed that Veer Savarkar College will be handed over to DU in 2026. Several key facilities—including new academic blocks, hostels, health centres, CCTV installations across campuses, and library expansions—are also nearing completion.

Major ongoing projects include:
●Institute of Eminence (IoE) academic building and hostel
●New Computer Centre building
●Expansion of DU libraries
●Faculty of Technology complex
●New girls’ hostel
●Development of East and West Campuses

Most renovation works have already been completed, while the remaining projects are expected to finish within the year.

DU Improves Global and National Rankings

Highlighting DU’s academic progress, Prof. Singh said the university has strengthened its global standing in the QS World University Rankings 2026. In the Employment Outcomes category, DU jumped 14 positions to rank 30th globally, making it India’s top institution in this category.
Other highlights:

●Overall QS global rank: 328
●Overall QS score improved from 33.8 (2025) to 42.6 (2026)
●NIRF University Ranking: Improved from 6th to 5th
●NIRF Research Category: Rose from 14th to 12th
●6 DU colleges featured among India’s Top 10 colleges
Top-performing colleges were also felicitated during the programme.

Record Promotions and Appointments
DU has set benchmarks in faculty promotions and recruitment:
●9,115 academic promotions completed by December 31, 2025
●5,037 academic appointments across colleges and departments
●456 non-teaching appointments completed

More Transparent Admissions Through CUET
The Vice-Chancellor said admissions have become more transparent after the introduction of CUET. In 2025:

72,229 admissions were made against 71,642 available seats
Seat utilisation exceeded 100% (0.65% overfill), compared to vacant seats in pre-CUET years

DU has also launched new academic programmes and approved the establishment of a Centre for Odia Studies, with expectations of central government grants and faculty approvals in 2026.

Aiming Higher in 2026
Concluding his address, Prof. Singh emphasised setting clear goals for 2026, calling Delhi University a globally unique institution with unmatched academic diversity and scale.
