As the Noida International Airport moves closer to inauguration, farmers from surrounding villages have renewed their demand for jobs promised during the land acquisition process. Many farmers say that although they gave their land for the project, employment assurances made earlier have yet to be fulfilled.
According to local farmers, the government had compensated landowners at around Rs 2,500 per square metre when the land was acquired for the airport project. However, families affected by the acquisition say they are still waiting for employment opportunities for their children.

Farmers Seek Priority in Airport Jobs
The issue has gained attention after Dhirendra Singh raised the matter, emphasising that both the airport developer and government authorities must ensure that youths from affected families receive priority in employment.
He said farmers in the Jewar region contributed their land for a project of national importance and should therefore benefit directly from the development.
“The farmers of Jewar and surrounding areas have given their valuable land for the airport. It is important that their families become direct beneficiaries through employment opportunities at the airport and related projects,” Singh said.

Farmers Initially Hesitant to Give Land
The MLA noted that farmers were initially reluctant to give their land because they feared their interests might not be protected.
However, they agreed to the acquisition after being assured that their families would receive employment opportunities once the airport project began operations.
“It is now the responsibility of the government, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, and other authorities to ensure justice for the farmers,” Singh added.

Talks with Authorities Near Final Stage
According to the MLA, discussions with the concerned authorities are now in the final stage, and efforts are being made to ensure that job opportunities are created for youths from the affected families.
He expressed hope that YEIDA will soon take concrete steps to provide employment linked to the airport project and its associated developments.
“Our continuous effort is to ensure that local farmers and their families become true stakeholders in the development brought by the airport,” Singh said.

Airport Ready for Operations
The airport project recently received an aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, clearing a major regulatory hurdle before operations begin.
Authorities are currently working on final preparations and are expected to announce the official inauguration date soon.
The Noida International Airport is projected to become one of India’s largest aviation hubs and is expected to generate thousands of jobs in aviation, logistics, hospitality, and related sectors. Local farmers hope that their families will be among the first beneficiaries of these opportunities.
