Dug-Up Roads, Open Pits: Indirapuram Residents Struggle Amid Ongoing Civic Works

Residents of Indirapuram are facing prolonged inconvenience as ongoing road redevelopment and sewer upgrade works continue to drag on for months. What was meant to improve infrastructure has instead turned large parts of the township into dusty, dug-up and hazardous stretches, affecting daily life and mobility.
The area, now under the jurisdiction of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, has been undergoing large-scale repairs since its handover from the development authority in 2024.

Excavation Everywhere, Relief Nowhere
Across Indirapuram, roads have been repeatedly dug up for:
●Sewer pipeline upgrades
●Drainage repairs
●Utility installations
However, residents say many stretches remain open for weeks or even months, often without barricades or warning signs. In several locations, iron rods protrude from the ground, posing serious safety risks to pedestrians and motorists.
A shopkeeper near Shanti Gopal Hospital summed up the frustration, saying roads are being dug repeatedly without proper completion timelines.

Traffic Chaos, Business Losses Mount
The situation has led to severe traffic congestion and daily commuting challenges.
Key stretches, including the road between Sai Temple and Amrapali Village, have narrowed due to ongoing work, forcing vehicles through single lanes riddled with potholes and sewage overflow.
Residents report:
●Frequent traffic jams and delays
●Ride-hailing drivers refusing to enter inner roads
●Increased risk of accidents due to poor road conditions
Local businesses are also taking a hit. Shop owners say footfall has dropped sharply due to dust, broken roads, and accessibility issues.

Sewer Issues Add to Residents’ Woes
Adding to the crisis, overflowing drains and outdated infrastructure have worsened the situation.
Officials admit that many pipelines are undersized and unable to handle wastewater, leading to frequent spillovers on roads. The township’s natural slope further complicates drainage, causing water to accumulate in low-lying areas.

Authorities Cite Scale of Work, Seek Patience
Officials say the disruption is part of a major infrastructure overhaul covering:
●Nearly 13 km of roads and sewer lines
●Additional stretches under the CM Green Road Infrastructure Scheme
According to civic authorities, the township has:
●Around 40 km of roads
●Nearly 135 km of drainage network, much of it outdated
A budget of approximately Rs 17 crore has been allocated for the revamp, with officials estimating that at least four more months will be required to complete the work.
They maintain that delays are unavoidable due to the technical process involved in road construction and pipeline replacement.

Residents Demand Better Planning & Safety Measures
While residents acknowledge the need for infrastructure upgrades, they are demanding:
●Proper project planning and timelines
●Immediate filling of open pits
●Installation of barricades and warning signs
●Better coordination to avoid repeated digging
For now, Indirapuram continues to remain a work-in-progress zone, where long-term development is coming at the cost of short-term hardship.
