Health authorities in Greater Noida have confirmed the presence of E. coli bacteria in a drinking water sample collected from the Delta Sector, raising serious concerns over water safety after several residents reported falling ill.
The confirmation came after multiple cases of vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, and fever were reported in the area, prompting the health department to conduct an immediate investigation.
Water Samples Sent for Testing After Rising Illness Complaints
According to officials, repeated complaints of illness from residents in Delta Sector led the health department to deploy a field inspection team. Drinking water samples were collected from four residential houses, including one sample from the external water supply line, and sent to a government laboratory in Ghaziabad for detailed analysis.
One Household Sample Tests Positive for E. coli
Laboratory reports received on Wednesday confirmed that one household’s water sample contained E. coli bacteria, while the remaining four samples were found to be within permissible safety standards.
Following the report, health officials contacted the affected family and advised them to:
◆Boil drinking water before use
◆Maintain strict hygiene
◆Remain alert to any symptoms of infection
Officials Monitor Area Despite Same Water Source
Malaria Officer Shruti Kirti Verma stated that although three of the sampled houses receive water from the same supply source, E. coli contamination was detected in only one household. This suggests the possibility of local contamination, such as leakage, storage issues, or pipeline damage.
As a precaution, all families in the affected area have been instructed to remain vigilant and immediately report any health symptoms.

Health Risks Associated With E. coli
Medical experts warn that certain strains of E. coli bacteria can pose serious health risks. The bacteria typically spread through contaminated water or food and can cause:
●Severe diarrhoea (including bloody stools)
●Intense abdominal cramps
●Vomiting and fever
Children, the elderly, and people with weak immunity are particularly vulnerable.
Surveillance Intensified in the Area
The health department has increased monitoring in the Delta Sector and is keeping a close watch on water quality and public health conditions. Officials have assured residents that further testing will be conducted if required and corrective measures will be taken to prevent any outbreak.
