Big relief for India’s 7 crore Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) subscribers — the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has rolled out ‘Passbook Lite’, a simplified feature on its Member Portal. Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced the initiative, calling it a major step toward single-login access for all PF-related services.
What Subscribers Can Do Now
Until now, members had to log in separately to the Passbook Portal to check their contributions, withdrawals, and balances. With Passbook Lite, subscribers can instantly view a summarised version of their passbook details right on the Member Portal — making the process faster, easier, and far more user-friendly.
Comprehensive Data Still Available
Those who want a deeper dive into their PF data, including graphical breakdowns, can still use the existing Passbook Portal. This two-tier system is designed to reduce the load on the old system while enhancing overall efficiency.
More Transparency, Less Waiting
According to Mandaviya, Passbook Lite will reduce grievances, improve transparency, and enhance member satisfaction. The move also streamlines approvals for PF transfers, settlements, advances, and refunds.
New Facility for Annexure K
In another digital push, EPFO has enabled online access to Annexure K (Transfer Certificate). This means when employees change jobs and their PF accounts get transferred, they can now directly download the Transfer Certificate in PDF format from the Member Portal itself — eliminating delays and middle layers.
Why It Matters
This reform signals EPFO’s shift toward a fully integrated digital ecosystem, giving millions of employees real-time access and control over their retirement savings. It’s not just a technical update but a step toward a transparent, paperless, and faster PF management system.
