In a major crackdown on counterfeit products, police in Delhi have busted a factory involved in manufacturing fake Sensodyne toothpaste, exposing a large-scale illegal operation.
The raid led to the seizure of huge quantities of counterfeit toothpaste, along with manufacturing machines, packaging units, and raw materials used to replicate branded products.

Inside the Illegal Operation
According to officials, the factory was producing duplicate versions of Sensodyne toothpaste designed to closely resemble the original product in packaging and appearance.
The operation was reportedly structured to mislead consumers by selling these fake products in local markets at lower prices, making it difficult for buyers to distinguish between genuine and counterfeit items.
Authorities believe the racket had been running for a significant period, supplying fake goods across multiple areas.

Health Risks Raise Serious Concerns
Experts warn that counterfeit oral care products pose serious health risks. Unlike genuine products, fake toothpaste may contain:
•Harmful or substandard chemicals
•Incorrect fluoride composition
•Contaminated or unsafe ingredients
Such products can lead to dental damage, infections, and long-term health issues, especially when used regularly.

How the Racket Operated
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused were sourcing cheap raw materials and using basic machinery to manufacture large quantities of fake toothpaste.
They also replicated branded packaging to make the products appear authentic. The finished goods were then distributed through informal supply chains, targeting price-sensitive markets.
Police are now tracing the distribution network to identify retailers and other individuals involved in the supply chain.

Growing Threat of Counterfeit FMCG Products
This incident highlights a rising trend of counterfeit fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) in urban markets. High-demand brands like Sensodyne often become easy targets due to:
•Strong consumer trust
•Premium pricing
•High daily usage
Fake versions not only harm consumers but also cause significant losses to original manufacturers.

Investigation Underway
Police have registered a case and are continuing investigations to identify the masterminds behind the operation. More raids are expected as authorities attempt to dismantle the entire network.
Officials have also urged consumers to remain cautious while purchasing branded products and to verify authenticity through proper packaging and trusted sellers.
