India’s upcoming aviation hub at Jewar is set to take off with strong airline participation, as major carriers including IndiGo, Akasa Air and Air India Express have confirmed operations from the airport.
Located near Noida, the airport is expected to significantly ease congestion at Indira Gandhi International Airport while boosting connectivity across North India.
Initial Routes to Major Metro Cities
The first phase of operations will focus on connecting key metro cities. Airlines are expected to begin flights to destinations such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
In addition, routes to cities like Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and Goa are also being planned, though final schedules are yet to be officially announced.
This initial network is designed to handle high-demand routes and establish the airport as a major domestic aviation hub from the outset.
Phased Expansion Plan
Officials have outlined a phased rollout strategy for the airport:
Phase 1: Limited domestic operations with select routes
Phase 2: Expansion of domestic capacity with more frequent flights
Phase 3: Launch of international flights, expected later in 2026
This gradual scaling approach aims to ensure smooth operations while infrastructure and passenger demand grow simultaneously.
A Game-Changer for NCR Connectivity
Spread across 5,600+ acres, the Jewar airport is one of India’s largest infrastructure projects. It is being developed to handle the increasing air traffic demand in the NCR region and reduce pressure on Delhi’s existing airport.
The project is also expected to:
Improve connectivity to Uttar Pradesh and nearby states
Boost tourism and business travel
Drive real estate and commercial growth in surrounding areas
Union minister Nitin Gadkari has described the airport as a transformative project that will put Noida on the global aviation map.

Akasa Air Plans Long-Term Investment
In a major development, Akasa Air has announced plans to set up a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the airport. This indicates long-term operational commitment and could turn Jewar into a key aviation services hub.
Launch Expected Soon
With regulatory approvals in place and infrastructure nearing completion, the airport is expected to begin operations soon after its official inauguration.
Once operational, Noida International Airport is likely to reshape travel patterns in North India by offering an alternative gateway to Delhi-NCR and reducing travel time for millions of passengers.
