Traveling from Delhi to Dehradun is set to become faster, smoother, and far more scenic by 2026, as the ambitious Delhi–Dehradun Expressway nears completion. Officially named the Delhi–Saharanpur–Dehradun Economic Corridor, this high-speed expressway will reduce the travel time between the two cities to just two-and-a-half hours, compared to the current 6–7 hours.
Spanning nearly 210 kilometres, the expressway has been designed using cutting-edge infrastructure technology and environmentally sensitive planning. With an estimated cost of Rs 13,000 crore, the project is expected to unlock a powerful economic corridor connecting Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
16 Entry–Exit Points, Faster Connectivity
The expressway will feature 16 access-controlled entry and exit points, allowing seamless movement of traffic while maintaining high-speed efficiency. Once operational, it will significantly ease congestion on existing highways and provide a direct, uninterrupted route to Uttarakhand’s capital.
Tourism hubs, business centres, logistics networks, and local economies along the route are expected to see a major boost. The corridor is also projected to generate new employment opportunities, particularly in construction, hospitality, transport, and trade.
A Big Win for Tourism and Trade
For travellers heading to popular hill destinations like Dehradun, Mussoorie, and Rishikesh, the expressway will be a game changer. Shorter travel time means more weekend tourism, better access for pilgrims, and faster movement of goods between states.
Experts believe the project will strengthen regional integration while supporting sustainable growth through eco-sensitive design, including wildlife corridors and green buffers.

Delhi Roads to Get a Major Upgrade by 2026
Alongside mega infrastructure projects, Delhi’s everyday road network is also set for a transformation. The Delhi government has announced plans to repair and redevelop 500 kilometres of major roads across the capital by 2026.
The initiative includes:
●Re-carpeting damaged roads
◆Filling potholes
◆Improving footpaths
◆Upgrading stormwater drainage systems
Special focus is being placed on South Delhi, where ageing flyovers are undergoing repairs and long-standing waterlogging issues are being addressed. These upgrades aim to reduce traffic congestion, improve road safety, and offer relief during the monsoon season.
With both expressway expansion and city road redevelopment underway, Delhi’s transport landscape is poised for a cleaner, faster, and more efficient future.
