When most of us walk past those asking for help on the streets, Naveen Kumar stops—not to give coins, but to offer dignity, shelter, and employment.
An engineer by profession, Naveen sacrificed a lucrative career to chase a dream that very few dare to imagine: a Beggar-Free India.
In 11 years, his NGO Atchayam Trust has already rehabilitated over 1,480 destitute people, helped 13,000 lives, and is run across 5 branches. With his unique vision, he is not just helping people survive, but empowering them to thrive.
The Moment That Changed Everything
Naveen’s journey began at 19, when preparing for GATE exams in Salem. He would often give his dinner to the hungry, inspired by the words of Swami Vivekananda:
“The future of India rests in the hands of its youth.”
A personal encounter with a drug-addicted young man pretending to be a beggar shook Naveen to his core. That day, he decided begging wasn’t the problem—it was society’s failure to provide second chances.

Dignity Restored: Transformations That Inspire
Each rescue story is personal. Like Rajasekhar, once addicted and homeless, now working with dignity as a watchman. Or Rathanammal, a 92-year-old woman abandoned by her family, now living with peace and purpose at Atchayam.
Atchayam classifies destitute people into 18 types, providing customized counselling, training in skills like incense stick and paper plate making, and employment placements.
“We don’t call them beggars. They are our brothers, our sisters, and our elders,” says Naveen.
How You Can Help
Funding remains a challenge. Naveen has introduced “MOI 101” – a call for people to donate ₹101 during their celebrations like birthdays or anniversaries.
Whether it’s a donation, volunteering, or simply not giving money to beggars, Naveen urges every Indian to take action.
“If you help us with one hand, we can open a hundred more for the helpless.”
