At just 21, Divya Tanwar etched her name in history by becoming India’s youngest IPS officer, a feat even more inspiring given her humble roots. Hailing from Nimbi village in Haryana’s Mahendragarh district, Divya’s path to success was shaped by hardship, resilience, and an unyielding spirit.
A Story of Struggle and Grit
Raised by a single mother, Babita Tanwar, who worked as a labourer after losing her husband in 2011, Divya’s early years were marked by financial struggles. Despite limited resources, Babita ensured her children received proper education. Divya completed her schooling in a government school and Navodaya Vidyalaya, later graduating with a degree in science.
Cracking UPSC Without Coaching
What sets Divya apart is her self-driven UPSC preparation journey. Without enrolling in any coaching institute, she relied solely on online materials and mock tests. In her first attempt, she secured AIR 438, scoring 930 marks (751 written + 179 interview), qualifying for IPS. But her dream was bigger — to become an IAS officer.
In her second attempt, Divya improved significantly, achieving AIR 105 with 994 marks (834 written + 160 interview), securing a position in the Manipur cadre of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
A Beacon of Hope for Aspirants
Divya Tanwar’s success story sends a powerful message: Perseverance and discipline can overcome poverty and adversity. She stands as a role model for thousands of UPSC aspirants from marginalized backgrounds, proving that circumstances don’t define destiny — dedication does.
