In the serene hills of Nagaland’s Phek district, a heart-wrenching tragedy has transformed into a beacon of hope. A 14-year-old girl, betrayed by her father and abandoned by her family, gave birth alone to a baby girl. But what could have ended in despair became the spark of a movement that is now inspiring an entire generation to stand against child abuse and injustice.
That baby girl was named Maveno, meaning “warrior” in Chakesang—and her name has become a powerful symbol of resistance, resilience, and rebirth.
Project Maveno: The Warrior is Born
On July 18, 2025, Superintendent of Police Dr. Pritpal Kaur, IPS, launched “Project Maveno: The Warrior” at Phek Government College. What began as an act of community compassion has now grown into a structured movement to empower youth against abuse, exploitation, drugs, and violence.
Backed by leaders like Col Iqbal Singh Dhillon, OSC head Ms. Jitsiasa, and PTCSU President Mr. Vezovo Rakho, the project quickly gained momentum. Sixty students joined on day one—not just to listen, but to lead.
Building Warriors Through Knowledge and Skill
Project Maveno stands on five powerful pillars:
Self-Defense: Students learn taekwondo, karate, and tactical survival skills.
Anti-Drug Volunteerism: Young minds are taught to reject narcotics and help peers do the same.
Adolescence Education: Sensitive topics like sexual abuse, cybercrime, and consent are tackled head-on.
Legal Awareness: Students are made aware of their rights, laws, and how to seek justice.
First Aid Training: Life-saving medical intervention skills are taught hands-on.
Daily training sessions are run jointly by the Phek Police and 39 Assam Rifles, covering all schools and colleges.
A Promise to Never Stay Silent Again
Every student takes an oath—to protect the innocent, help the wounded, and fight injustice with courage. Their voices echo through Phek: “We will not be silent. We will be the warriors our community needs.”
What began as a single girl’s story has become the pride of Phek—and a growing movement of protection, healing, and hope.
