In a major infrastructure boost for Ghaziabad, the long-standing demand for a four-lane bridge over the Hindon River has finally received official approval. The proposed bridge, aimed at directly connecting Vasundhara and Siddharth Vihar, was cleared during a high-level meeting chaired by Housing Commissioner Dr Balkaar Singh. The proposal is now set to receive final clearance in the upcoming December board meeting.
Single-lane bridge causes daily traffic chaos
At present, traffic between Vasundhara and Siddharth Vihar depends on a single-lane bridge at the Hindon Barrage. This narrow stretch handles traffic from both directions, resulting in heavy congestion during morning and evening peak hours. Daily commuters, office-goers, and residents have long complained of frequent traffic jams and delays.
New bridge to benefit lakhs of residents
Once completed, the new four-lane bridge is expected to provide direct and smooth connectivity to Siddharth Vihar, Pratap Vihar, and the wider Trans-Hindon region. Officials estimate that lakhs of residents will benefit from reduced travel time and improved traffic flow, especially during peak commuting hours.
Project details and estimated cost
According to Housing Commissioner Dr Balkaar Singh, the proposed bridge will be constructed about 50 metres away from the existing Hindon Barrage. The structure will be approximately 200 metres long and will be built at an estimated cost of ₹51 crore. The project has already been surveyed by Setu Nigam, which will execute the construction work after final approval.
Funding and execution plan finalised
Once the board gives its formal approval, the Housing and Development Council will release the construction funds to Setu Nigam. Following this, the agency will begin construction work. Officials have assured that the project will be closely monitored to ensure timely completion.
Elevated road connectivity to enhance access
Along with the bridge, plans are in place to connect it with the Delhi-Ghaziabad elevated road. A dedicated leaf ramp will be constructed near the proposed AIIMS Satellite Centre in Vasundhara Sector-7, allowing vehicles to smoothly enter and exit the elevated road.

Direct access to Vasundhara Sector-7
After the leaf ramp becomes operational, vehicles coming from Delhi via the elevated road will be able to directly enter Vasundhara Sector-7. Currently, commuters are forced to take long detours via Raj Nagar Extension, adding several kilometres to their journey.
Major step toward easing urban congestion
Urban planners believe the project will significantly reduce congestion, improve road safety, and strengthen connectivity between key residential hubs. The four-lane bridge is being seen as a critical step toward addressing Ghaziabad’s growing traffic pressure.
Hope rises among residents
For residents who have endured years of traffic bottlenecks, the approval has brought renewed hope. Once completed, the Hindon four-lane bridge is expected to transform daily commuting and improve quality of life across the Trans-Hindon region.
