In a significant move to ease highway travel and improve toll collection efficiency, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has announced the launch of a FASTag-based Annual Pass priced at Rs 3,000, effective from August 15, 2025. This initiative is set to transform the travel experience for lakhs of private vehicle owners across India by offering a simple, affordable, and time-saving alternative to conventional toll payments.
Key Features of the FASTag Annual Pass
This newly introduced Annual Pass will be valid for a period of one year from the date of activation or for 200 highway trips, whichever comes first. The scheme is exclusively applicable to non-commercial private vehicles, including cars, jeeps, and vans.
The pass aims to ensure seamless and uninterrupted travel across all National Highways, thereby reducing waiting time at toll plazas and minimizing traffic congestion. By using this single-pass system, travellers can avoid frequent toll payments, enhancing convenience and bringing down overall travel costs.
Activation & Renewal Made Easy
For ease of use, a dedicated link for activation and renewal will soon be launched on the Rajmarg Yatra App, as well as on the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). This digital option ensures that vehicle owners can activate or renew their passes effortlessly without visiting any physical outlet.
Addresses Long-Pending Concerns
The Annual Pass also addresses long-standing concerns regarding toll plazas located within a 60 km distance—a major issue that has sparked disputes and confusion among highway commuters. This initiative resolves such problems by offering a single, unified transaction for toll charges within this range, eliminating the need for multiple payments or clarifications.
Benefits to the Public
Affordable travel: One-time payment of Rs 3,000 for up to 200 trips or 1 year.
Reduced waiting times at toll plazas, ensuring smoother highway commutes.
Minimized disputes over toll charges and distances.
Lower congestion at National Highway toll booths.
Easy online activation and renewal, saving time and effort.
This forward-looking step by MoRTH and NHAI is expected to significantly improve the highway travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners across India, making road journeys faster, smoother, and more economical.
