In a significant move to curb the circulation of sensitive and potentially harmful content, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has issued a strong advisory to all private satellite television channels across India. The notice, dated 18 November 2025, warns broadcasters against airing material that could incite violence, promote unlawful activities, or threaten national security.
According to the advisory, the Ministry observed that some news channels recently telecasted interviews, visuals, and claims made by individuals allegedly linked to the Red Fort blasts, including content that “justified acts of violence” and even showcased information on making explosive materials.
The Ministry cautioned that such broadcasts could unintentionally encourage extremist behaviour, disrupt public order, and pose serious risks to national security.

What the Advisory Directs
The Ministry has reminded channels to follow the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, specifically Section 6(1)(d), 6(1)(e), and 6(1)(h), which prohibit content that:
●Contains obscene, defamatory, false or suggestive innuendos
●Encourages or incites violence, or promotes anti-national attitudes
●Affects the integrity and sovereignty of the nation
Additionally, broadcasters have been advised to avoid telecasting visuals that may aid, abet, or promote unlawful acts, especially those related to explosives or extremist ideologies.
The advisory emphasizes the need for “highest level of discretion and sensitivity” while reporting on such matters—especially incidents linked to terrorism, national security, or public order.
Goal: Protect National Security & Public Order
The MIB clarified that the purpose of the advisory is to ensure responsible journalism, prevent the spread of harmful information, and safeguard India’s internal security landscape. The order was issued with approval from the competent authority, underscoring its seriousness.
The advisory has also been shared with:
●Self-regulatory bodies of TV channels
●Associations of electronic media
●The Broadcast Seva Portal
