In a significant step towards sustainable rural development, the Greater Noida Authority has launched a zero-waste initiative in Badalpur village, the native village of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati. The initiative aims to transform Badalpur into a clean, self-reliant and environmentally responsible village by introducing systematic waste management practices.
As part of the programme, door-to-door garbage collection has officially begun in the village. Specially deployed vehicles, provided by the Authority, will now collect household waste on a regular basis, ensuring that garbage is no longer dumped in open areas or along roadsides. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Feedback Foundation, which is actively involved in waste management and community awareness.
Focus on Waste Segregation and Recycling
Officials said the zero-waste model is centred on proper segregation of waste at the household level. Residents have been encouraged to separate wet waste and dry waste before disposal. Dry waste collected from homes will be transported to the village’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF) centre, where it will be sorted and recycled.
Through recycling, usable products will be manufactured from waste materials, helping reduce landfill burden and creating economic value from garbage. The process is expected to significantly reduce the volume of waste sent for dumping while promoting circular economy practices at the village level.
Community Participation Key to Success
Recognising that public participation is essential for the success of the project, teams from the Feedback Foundation have been conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns. Villagers are being educated about waste segregation methods, the importance of cleanliness, and the health benefits of living in a pollution-free environment.
Residents were informed about how improper waste disposal can contaminate water sources, attract disease-carrying pests, and degrade overall living conditions. The initiative seeks to instil long-term behavioural change rather than offering a temporary solution.
Authority Calls It a Model for Other Villages
Greater Noida Authority’s Additional CEO, Shrilakshmi VS, described the initiative as a milestone in rural waste management. She stated that the Badalpur project is not only aimed at improving sanitation but also at setting an example for surrounding villages.
According to officials, if the model proves successful, similar zero-waste programmes may be replicated in other rural areas under the Authority’s jurisdiction. The initiative aligns with broader government goals of sustainable development, environmental protection, and citizen-driven cleanliness efforts.

The zero-waste drive in Badalpur marks a shift from conventional waste disposal to a more structured and environmentally conscious system. With door-to-door collection, waste segregation, recycling, and strong community engagement, the village is expected to witness visible improvements in cleanliness and public health.
Authorities believe that Badalpur’s transformation into a zero-waste village will encourage neighbouring communities to adopt similar practices, paving the way for a cleaner and greener Greater Noida region.
