In a moment that beautifully blended pride, nostalgia, and national admiration, IPS officer Laxmi Singh—Uttar Pradesh’s first woman Police Commissioner—returned to her alma mater, Lucknow University, not as a student, but as a celebrated icon of integrity and leadership.

On the university’s 105th Foundation Day, Laxmi Singh was honoured for her extraordinary service to the nation—turning the event into an emotional homecoming for one of India’s finest police officers.

Breaking Barriers in Uniform
In December 2022, Laxmi Singh created history by becoming the first woman Police Commissioner in Uttar Pradesh, taking charge of Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida). A 2000-batch IPS officer, she replaced Alok Singh and opened a new chapter for women in policing.

What makes her journey remarkable is not just the posts she held—but the way she earned them.

A Brilliant Mind, A Fierce Leader
Laxmi Singh holds the distinction of being the first-ever woman IPS topper in her batch, securing All India Rank 33 in the UPSC exam. She was awarded:

●Best Probationer Award, SVP National Police Academy

●Prime Minister’s Silver Baton

●Home Minister’s 9mm Pistol Award

●IET Gold Medal

With a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, she joined the police service to break stereotypes—and succeeded beyond expectations.

A Career Marked by Courage & Commitment

Over the years, she has served in crucial roles:

●Senior Superintendent of Police (2004)

●Deputy Inspector General (2013)

●Inspector General (2018)

●IG/DIG, STF Gautam Buddh Nagar

●IG, Police Training School Meerut

●IG, Lucknow Range

Known for zero tolerance against crime, community-focused policing, and administrative excellence—Laxmi Singh has redefined leadership in UP Police.

A Homecoming That Touched Millions
At Lucknow University’s foundation day, Laxmi Singh was honoured among eminent personalities from literature, finance, science, arts, judiciary, and journalism.

Standing again on the campus where her journey began, the IPS officer said the recognition filled her with “deep pride and emotion.”

For thousands of young students watching, she wasn’t just an awardee—she was living proof that discipline, courage, and hard work can shape destiny.

Inspiring a Generation
Her story resonates far beyond police ranks. From fighting crime on the ground to battling stereotypes in society, Laxmi Singh has emerged as:

●A role model for women in uniform

●A beacon of hope for UPSC aspirants

●A symbol of integrity in public service

●A leader who inspires trust and confidence

As UP’s first woman Police Commissioner and one of India’s most decorated IPS officers, she continues to show that true power lies in service, not status.
