Amid the relentless downpour and rising Yamuna waters, one officer stood tall—umbrella in one hand, books in the other. Noida District Magistrate Medha Roopam (IAS, 2014 batch) has become the face of resilience and empathy after a video of her braving heavy rains to oversee flood relief operations went viral, sparking admiration across India.
Leading from the Front: Relief Over Rain
With parts of Noida submerged due to the Yamuna crossing danger levels, Medha Roopam wasted no time stepping into action. Appointed as Noida DM in July, she visited flood-hit relief camps in Sector-135 and Sector-150, walking through drenched lanes to check arrangements.
Ignoring the pouring rain, she interacted with families, patiently listening to their concerns and ensuring immediate redressal. Her message was clear: “Relief work must not pause, no matter the weather.”
Books for Children: Education Amid Crisis
The most moving moment came when she met children at temporary shelters. Handing them books and learning materials, she reassured parents that their children’s education would not be interrupted.
“Schools must continue without interruption, even in flood-affected zones,” she instructed her team, directing them to arrange alternate learning setups inside the camps.
Clean Water, Food, and Dignity
During her inspection, the DM reviewed every detail—from clean drinking water and sanitation to food supply, medical care, and hygiene standards. She personally spoke to women and children, emphasizing that relief must be delivered with both efficiency and dignity.
Beyond the Bureaucrat: A Sporting Spirit
Before Noida, Roopam served as DM Kasganj, earning praise for her sharp administration. Interestingly, she is also a skilled shooting sportsperson—proof of her grit and discipline beyond the corridors of governance.
Social Media Applauds a ‘Real-Life Hero’
Her rain-soaked video has now gone viral, with citizens hailing her as an officer who leads from the front. Comments flooded social media calling her “true leadership in action” and a “real-life hero.”
