In a coordinated rescue effort, 197 Indian nationals were repatriated to India today from the border town of Mae Sot, Thailand, on two special Indian Air Force (IAF) flights. The move is part of ongoing efforts to assist Indians who were reportedly trapped or coerced into cyber fraud operations across the Myanmar border.

Top-Level Cooperation
Thailand’s Prime Minister H.E. Anutin Charnvirakul personally visited Mae Sot to review the repatriation process. He was received at the airport by Mr. Nagesh Singh, India’s Ambassador to Thailand.
The Thai PM praised India for its swift and organized response and assured continued support in helping Indian nationals still awaiting clearance from Myanmar-based cyber centers.

Background: The Myanmar Cyber Scam Network
The repatriated individuals had crossed into Thailand from Myawaddy, Myanmar, where they were allegedly employed in cyber fraud centers run by organized trafficking networks.
After entering Thailand illegally, they were detained for violating immigration laws until diplomatic coordination enabled their safe return.

India–Thailand Joint Resolve
Both nations affirmed strong cooperation against transnational crimes, especially:

●Online fraud networks

●Human trafficking

●Illegal cross-border recruitment

Authorities in both countries are now increasing intelligence exchange and surveillance of trafficking routes.

Indian Advisory to the Public
The Embassy of India in Bangkok and the Consulate in Chiang Mai facilitated the rescue and urged citizens to be cautious of overseas job offers, especially those promising high salaries without proper documentation.

Important Advisory:
Visa-free entry to Thailand is allowed only for tourism and short business visits — not for employment. Misuse can lead to detention, trafficking risks, and legal complications.

A Continuing Effort
This repatriation is part of a larger, ongoing operation to rescue Indian nationals trapped in cyber scam hubs operating across Southeast Asia. Similar missions are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
