In a landmark move highlighting India’s leadership in global peacekeeping, the nation is set to host the United Nations Troop Contributing Countries’ (UNTCC) Chiefs Conclave in New Delhi from October 14 to 16. The prestigious event will bring together Army Chiefs from 33 nations — primarily from the Global South and Europe — to strengthen cooperation and reimagine strategies for international peace operations.
India at the Heart of Global Peacekeeping
India, one of the largest and most respected contributors to UN peacekeeping missions, continues to stand tall on the global stage. Currently, over 5,500 Indian men and women soldiers are deployed across nine conflict-hit countries, serving under the UN flag. Their dedication and professionalism have earned India a reputation as a cornerstone of peace and humanitarian commitment.
What makes this contribution even more significant is the nation’s supreme sacrifice — India has lost more peacekeepers than any other country in the history of UN operations. This legacy of courage and service underscores India’s moral authority in hosting such a crucial dialogue.
Delhi Conclave: Strengthening Global Collaboration
The three-day conclave, to be held at the Manekshaw Centre, will serve as a vital platform for troop-contributing nations to discuss evolving global challenges — from conflict zones to humanitarian crises.
Lieutenant General Rakesh Kapoor briefed the media about the event’s modalities, emphasizing India’s commitment to “enhancing operational synergy and reinforcing trust among partner nations.”
The discussions will focus on improving coordination, ensuring troop safety, sharing best practices, and integrating technology for modern peacekeeping. The conclave also aims to explore how developing nations can have a stronger voice in shaping UN peace policies.
Global South Takes the Lead
With participation from nations spanning Asia, Africa, and Europe, the Delhi meeting reflects a broader shift — where the Global South is asserting its role in shaping global security frameworks. India’s diplomatic and defence leadership is increasingly being recognized as a bridge between regions and ideologies.
As the world faces rising geopolitical tensions, India’s initiative to bring military leadership together under the UN peacekeeping umbrella reinforces its vision of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” — One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
