Kottayam has just witnessed a refreshing transformation in the world of postal services. On Monday, India Post launched Kerala’s first-ever Gen-Z Post Office Extension Counter at the historic CMS College — and it’s nothing like the post office you’ve ever seen.
Inaugurated by N.R. Giri, Director Postal Services (Kerala Central Region), the new facility marks a bold step toward making India Post more relevant, engaging, and student-friendly. Built around the ethos “of the students, by the students, for the students,” the centre has been completely conceptualised and co-designed by CMS College students themselves.
A Post Office Designed for Today’s Youth
This Gen-Z-themed space redefines how young Indians interact with postal services. Forget dull counters and old furniture — this centre is modern, vibrant, and Instagram-worthy.
Key highlights of the new-age design include:
●A vertical garden and nature-inspired décor
●Picnic-style seating that creates a relaxed, outdoor vibe
●Eco-friendly seating made from refurbished tyres
●A work-friendly counter with charging ports for laptops and mobiles
●A recreation corner with board games, bookshelf, reading nook
●A fully functional MPCM booking counter, packaging material store, and MyStamp printer
Students can now study, relax, collaborate, and complete their postal tasks — all under one roof.

A Creative Hub, Not Just a Post Office
What truly sets this initiative apart is its vision. The Ministry of Communications says the idea is not only to bring services closer to students but to transform the post office into a community space.
Student and staff-made artworks brighten the interiors, celebrating:
●India Post’s legacy
●Kerala’s rich culture
●Kottayam’s identity as the “Land of Letters”
●The college’s bond with nature
This Gen-Z counter acts as a workplace, meeting spot, creative hub, relaxation zone, and service centre, all at once — creating a dynamic model for the future of postal engagement across India.
A Step Toward Reimagining India Post for the Future
With this initiative, India Post signals a new chapter — one that embraces youth, sustainability, technology, and creativity. As more young Indians seek inclusive and modern public spaces, this Gen-Z post office could become the blueprint for campuses nationwide.
CMS College students have not just designed a post office — they’ve redesigned how a new generation experiences one.
