In a sweet triumph for India’s agricultural and export sector, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has set a new record by exporting 3,624 metric tonnes of Indian mangoes to major international cities such as London, New York, and Toronto. This milestone is being hailed as a testament to the soaring global demand for India’s “King of Fruits.”

Indian Mangoes Conquer the World Stage

Known for their unparalleled aroma, juicy sweetness, and diverse varieties such as Alphonso, Kesar, and Banganapalli, Indian mangoes have captivated fruit lovers across continents. This year’s export volume marks a significant jump compared to previous years, reflecting the rising global appreciation for the superior taste and quality of Indian mangoes.

Exporters report that London and other cities in the UK received the largest share, followed by New York and Toronto, where the Indian diaspora and international consumers eagerly await the seasonal delicacy.

Boost to Farmers and India’s Agricultural Economy

The mango exports have provided a substantial boost to thousands of Indian farmers, especially from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. According to trade analysts, this surge in demand has not only increased the income of mango cultivators but has also opened new international trade corridors for Indian horticulture.

“This record-breaking export reflects both the exceptional quality of Indian mangoes and the growing efficiency of India’s cold-chain logistics and packaging standards,” said an official from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).

World-Class Facilities at Mumbai Airport Enable Smooth Exports

CSMIA’s ultra-modern perishable cargo terminal, equipped with advanced cold storage and fast-track export clearance processes, played a key role in ensuring the freshness and quality of the fruit during its long-haul journey to foreign markets.

Industry experts note that the airport’s collaboration with the Plant Quarantine Office and Customs facilitated quick, hassle-free processing of this record volume.

India’s Soft Power in a Crate of Mangoes

Beyond business, the mango export success story reflects India’s cultural soft power, as the country’s most beloved fruit wins hearts across the globe. Social media is abuzz in London and Toronto with customers sharing their excitement over receiving fresh, authentic Indian mangoes—a taste of India delivered thousands of miles away.

Bright Prospects for the Future

With plans underway to expand exports to new destinations like Australia and the Middle East, India’s mango export sector is poised for further growth. Industry insiders predict that Indian mangoes will soon grace supermarket shelves in even more countries, riding the wave of this year’s record success.
