MUMBAI: Indian Navy has achieved a significant milestone towards self-reliance in armaments and ammunition by receiving a fully indigenous underwater Rocket RGB 60 fuze YDB-60.
The fuze has been manufactured for the first time by private Indian industry – M/s Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), Nagpur. This marks the first time that the Indian Navy has placed a supply order for underwater ammunition fuze on Indian private industry.
Satyanarayan Nuwal, the CMD of M/s EEL, Nagpur, handed over the first consignment of the fuze to Vice Admiral SN Ghormade, Vice Chief of Naval Staff (VCNS). VAdm Ghormade expressed his appreciation for the growing participation of private industries in the manufacture of armament and ammunition. He also commended the achievement of M/s EEL in developing and manufacturing the fuze using simulated dynamic trial facilities.
The Directorate General of Naval Armament (DGONA) and Directorate General of Naval Armament Inspection (DGNAI) of the Indian Navy have provided all technical assistance to M/s EEL towards creating a vibrant ecosystem for the manufacture of ammunition and fuze in India in pursuit of AatmaNirbharta (self-reliance).
The underwater Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Rocket RGB-60 is used from major warships, and the indigenous fuze YDB-60 will provide a major boost to AatmaNirbharta in armament and ammunition. The development and manufacture of the fuze by a private industry marks a significant achievement for the country. This step towards self-reliance in armaments and ammunition by the Indian Navy is expected to create a positive impact on the defense sector and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
