India’s First Eye Drops to Reduce Dependence on Reading Glasses To Be Launched Soon

Entod Pharmaceuticals, a Mumbai-based company, announced on Tuesday that they have received the green light from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) to bring a new kind of eye drop to market, specifically aimed at treating presbyopia. This common eye condition, which often hits people over 40, makes it hard to focus on close objects and usually has folks reaching for reading glasses.

But with Entod’s new product, called PresVu, the company hopes to change that.

Launching in early October, PresVu is set to become India’s first eye drop designed to reduce reliance on reading glasses. The approval from DCGI comes after a nod from the Subject Expert Committee of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), marking major breakthrough in eye care for millions of Indians.

“This approval is a big step for us,” said Entod Pharmaceuticals CEO Nikkhil K Masurkar. “PresVu is more than just another product; it’s a way to help people enjoy greater visual independence without having to rely so heavily on glasses.”

What is Presbyopia

Presbyopia is not just an issue in India; it’s a global condition that affects up to 1.8 billion people worldwide as a natural part of aging. As the eye’s ability to focus declines, even simple tasks like reading a book or checking a phone can become challenging without assistance.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, Masurkar shared that Entod plans to expand beyond India, targeting emerging markets in Africa and Southeast Asia, where there is a growing need for affordable healthcare solutions. He also hinted at ambitions to innovate in India and potentially out-license these products in the U.S., a market that Entod is yet to enter.

“The U.S. market is full of low-cost generics, but our goal is to bring something new and innovative,” Masurkar explained. “We’re excited about creating groundbreaking products and then licensing them to other countries.”

Entod’s strategy goes beyond just making eye drops; it’s about reaching people who lack access to affordable medicines. Africa, for instance, is one of their main focuses, where they are actively introducing new treatments that haven’t been made available by the big pharmaceutical companies.

Entod’s journey reflects a broader vision: to innovate, expand, and make healthcare accessible to all, starting with something as simple—and as life-changing—as a pair of eye drops.
